Metropolitan Opera’s Boris Godunov, Starring René Pape, to Be Broadcast on PBS in February

The Metropolitan Opera’s new production of Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov will be broadcast on PBS as part of the series, Great Performances at the Met. In New York, the program will air on THIRTEEN on Thursday, February 10 at 8pm. The program will also air on February 13.

The opera was conducted by Valery Gergiev, and directed by Stephen Wadsworth. The program was originally seen live in movie theaters as part of the The Met: Live in HD series.

René Pape stars in the title role of the opera, adapted from a play by Alexander Pushkin about the extraordinary reign of the 16th-century tsar. The role is viewed as a touchstone role for operatic basses. The cast also includes tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko as Grigory/The Pretender Dimitri, mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Semenchuk as Princess Marina, bass-baritone Evgeny Nikitin as Rangoni, bass Mikhail Petrenko as Pimen, tenor Oleg Balashov as Shuisky, and bass Vladimir Ognovenko as Varlaam.

The production’s creative team includes costume designer Moidele Bickel, set designer Ferdinand Wögerbauer, and choreographer Apostolia Tsolaki.
