Christopher Trumbo, Author of Play About Father Dalton Trumbo, Dies at 70

Stage and screen writer Christopher Trumbo died of complications from kidney cancer at his home in Ojai, California on Saturday, January 8, according to The Los Angeles Times. He was 70 years old.

Trumbo was the author of the play, Trumbo: Red, White & Blacklisted, about his father Dalton Trumbo, who was blacklisted as one of the infamous Hollywood 10. The work was based upon his father’s letters. It played Off-Broadway in 2003, and a film version, also written by Christopher Trumbo, was made in 2007.

Christopher Trumbo was also a writer for film and television, with credits including Ironside, Falcon Crest, The Don Is Dead, and Brannigan, among others. He also worked as associate producer and assistant director on the 1971 film Johnny Got His Gun, written and directed by his father.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Escher, and his sisters Mitzi and Nikola.
