Philip Whitchurch will join the Broadway company of Billy Elliot the Musical in the role of Dad, January 29-May 2. He temporarily replaces Tony Award-winner Gregory Jbara in the role, with the latter actor scheduled to return to the production on May 4.

Based on the 2000 film of the same name, the show tells the tale of a young boy with a dream of being a dancer. The show won 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Featuring music by Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall, choreography by Peter Darling and direction by Stephen Daldry, Billy Elliot also features Michael Dameski, Alex Ko, Trent Kowalik, Liam Redhead, and Dayton Tavares as Billy; Kate Hennig as Mrs. Wilkinson; Carole Shelley as Grandma; Will Chase as Tony; and Trevor Braun and Jake Evan Schwencke as Michael.

Whitchurch, who will be making his Broadway debut, previously performed his role in the UK production of the musical. Additional theater credits include A View From a Bridge, Summerfolk & Women of Troy, Tis Pity She's a Whore, Inspector Calls, The Changing Room, Keeping Body and Soul Together, and Othello.
