Dreamgirls, High School Musical, et al. Earn PGA Nominations

Dreamgirls has been nominated for Best Picture of the Year by the Producers Guild of America, according to Variety.

The four other nominees for Best Picture are Babel, The Departed, Little Miss Sunshine, and The Queen. The winner will be named on January 20 at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

The PGA also presents awards in the categories of Animated Film, Long-Form Television, Episodic Television Drama, Episodic Television Comedy, Variety Television, and Non-Fiction Television. Among the nominees in those categories are High School Musical, Happy Feet, Elizabeth I, Weeds, American Idol, and Dancing with the Stars.

In other Dreamgirls news, Beyoncé Knowles, who plays Deena Jones in the film, has been deemed ineligible for an Academy Award for her contribution to the song “Listen.” The Academy’s rules state that a maximum of three writers can be eligible, and has deemed writers Henry Kreiger, Anne Preven, and Steve Cutler as the possible nominees. The Academy Award nominations will be announced on January 23.
