Tony Award winner Alan Cumming and former Hairspray star Jackie Hoffman will help performance artist Mike Albo celebrate the paperback release of his hit comedic novel The Underminer with a reading at Joe’s Pub on Thursday, February 23 at 9:30pm. Also on hand for the event will be Albo’s co-author, Virginia Heffernan, as well as Cintra Wilson, Chris Wells, and Nancy Balbirer. The performers will read excerpts from the novel and give real-life testimonials of their own run-ins with the “underminer” in their lives.

In other Joe’s Pub news, the developmental reading of a yet-to-be-titled new musical starring Sutton Foster and Christian Borle that was to have been presented there on Mondays, January 30 through February 13, has been cancelled. The tuner, which follows the lead characters on a road trip in a beat-up Chevrolet, has a book by Keith Bunin and songs by Grammy-nominee Patty Griffin.
