The production originally opened in 1996 in London's West End to generally poor reviews. After several rewrites and a successfully-reviewed reappearance in Leeds, England, the show finally made its long-awaited American debut last September at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. The show then moved to Detroit, receiving its most critical praise yet on its then-expected journey to Broadway. With New York now out of the picture, however, the show will continue its tour with a stop in Seattle, and then will finish up, at least for now, with eight weeks in Los Angeles.
