Italian playwright Dario Fo’s political farce Accidental Death of an Anarchist has been added to the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s 2011 season, and will run August 3-28. It replaces the previously reported Fallen Angels, by Noel Coward.
Inspired by a true story of man who “fell” from the window of a police station, Fo has invented an outrageously sly and caustic comedy filled with physical and linguistic acrobatics.
The season will begin with a Main Stage production of Moliere’s The Misanthrope (June 1-16), directed by Bonnie J. Monte. The company’s annual Outdoor Stage production at the Greek amphitheater at the College of St. Elizabeth in Morris Township, will be Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (June 22-July 31), directed by Cameron Watson. Back on the Main Stage, the Shakespeare Theatre will present Shakespeare’s Timon of Athens (July 6-24), directed by Brian B. Crowe.
Keith Hamilton Cobb will star in the title role of Shakespeare’s Othello (September 7-October 2). Next will be Christopher Sergel’s stage adaptation of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird (October 12-November 20), directed by Joe Discher. The season will close with Neil Bartlett’s A Christmas Carol from the novel by Charles Dickens, and directed by Bonnie J. Monte, December 1-January 1.
