Actress, author, and social activist Marlo Thomas will be the inaugural recipient of George Street Playhouse's Arthur Laurents Award for Distinguished Artistic Achievement. The award will be presented to her at the New Jersey theater's annual gala benefit on Sunday, May 3. Thomas joins fellow honoree Stephen Jones, CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Health System, who will be honored with the Thomas H. Kean Arts Advocacy Award.

"I am thrilled to be honoring Marlo," said Artistic Director David Saint. "She has graced our stage three times, and each time has embodied the talent and exacting artistic standards that Arthur so admired. In addition, Arthur adored her. Working on New Year’s Eve, Arthur said to Marlo, ‘Where have you been all of my life? You’re one of the greats!’ There is no better recipient for this inaugural award."

The black-tie event will be held at The Heldrich across the street from George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Festivities begins at 5pm with a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by dinner at 6:30pm with the cabaret performance, honoring Thomas, commencing at 7:30pm. Sponsorship opportunities, tables of 10, as well as individual tickets are available.
