The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey continues its 50th anniversary season with David Ives’s new adaptation of Pierre Corneille’s The Liar. Performances will be held from July 4-29 at The F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre. Paul Mullins will direct.

In the play, a young Dorante moves to Paris and falls in love with a young woman, Clarice. He thinks that her name is Lucrece, the name of Clarice’s friend, and this initial mistaken identity leads to hysterical mayhem. The fact that Dorante is a pathological liar only adds to the fun.

The Liar will feature performances by Brian Cade, Clark Carmichael, Katie Fabel, Jim Hopkins, Kevin Isola, Maya Kazan, Jane Pfitsch and James Russell.

The creative team will include sound designer Karin Graybash, lighting designer Andrew Hungerford, costume designer Candida K. Nicols and set designer Michael Schweikardt.
