Cast and creative team information has been announced for the Penumbra Theatre Company production of The Whipping Man, February 19-March 8, to be directed by Lou Bellamy.

Written by Matthew Lopez, this drama brings a story of violence, passion, and hope surrounding the end of the Civil War and the birth of American freedom. Caleb De Leon returns to his father's home in Richmond, Virginia badly wounded to find his family gone, their house pillaged beyond recognition, and two former slaves who served his family amid the wreckage.

The cast will feature Duane Boutté as John, Joseph Papke as Caleb De Leon, and Bruce A. Young as Simon. The creative team will include Kenneth F. Evans (scenic design), Martin Gwinup (sound design), Kalere A. Payton (costume design), and Kathy A. Perkins (lighting design).
