2011 Carbonell Award Nominations Announced

The nominees for the 2011 Carbonell Awards have been announced. The prizes will be presented in a ceremony to be held on April 2 in the Amaturo Theatre of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The Maltz Jupiter Theatre has earned the most nominations, a total of 25, including ones for Crazy for You, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and The Sound of Music, which are both nominated for the Best Production of a Musical award. The other nominees in the category are The Light in the Piazza (Broward Stage Door Theatre) and Song of the Living Dead (Promethean Theatre).

Nominees in the Best Actor in a Musical category are Matt Loehr, John Pinto, Jr., Michael Sharon, and Dylan H. Thompson. In the Best Actress in a Musical category, the nominees are Colleen Amaya, Joline Mujica, Vanessa Sonon, Gabrielle Visser, and Catherine Walker.

In dramatic categories, the nominees for Best Production of a Play are All My Sons (Palm Beach Dramaworks), August: Osage County (Actors’ Playhouse), Clybourne Park (Caldwell Theatre Company), The Pillowman (Infinite Abyss), and Stuff (Caldwell Theatre Company). In addition, David Michael Sirois’ Brothers Beckett, Christopher Demos Brown’s Captiva, Carter W. Lewis’ The Cha-Cha of the Camel Spider, and Michael McKeever’s Stuff are all nominated for the Best New Work Award.

Among the other nominees are Kati Brazda, Ken Clement, Elizabeth Dimon, Avi Hoffman, Annette Miller, Deborah Sherman, Scott Douglas Thompson, Kenneth Tigar, Laura Turnbull, and Gregg Weiner.
