Alec Baldwin, Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Al Pacino, Kevin Spacey, et al. Receive Golden Globe Nominations

The nominations for the 2011 Golden Globe Awards have been announced. The prizes will be presented in a ceremony to be held on January 16 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Ricky Gervais will host the event which will be broadcast live on NBC from 8:00-11:00 pm (EST)/5:00-8:00 pm (PST). The awards honor both work in film and television.

In the film categories, The King’s Speech has received the most nominations – a total of seven; and is followed by The Fighter and The Social Network, both of which have garnered six nods. The movies will all be competing for Best Motion Picture – Drama, alongside Black Swan and Inception. Among the films in the Best Motion Picture — Comedy or Drama category are The Kids Are All Right and Burlesque.

Among the actors who have been nominated for their leading roles in dramatic movies are Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and Colin Firth (The King’s Speech). The nominated actresses in the lead dramatic categories include Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole), Natalie Portman (Black Swan), and Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine).

In the categories for lead performers in comedic or musical films, the nominees include Annette Bening (The Kids Are All Right), Paul Giamatti (Barney’s Version), Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs), Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Rigth), and Kevin Spacey (Casino Jack).

Artists who have been nominated in the supporting performance categories include Andrew Garfield (The Social Network), Melissa Leo (The Fighter), and Geoffrey Rush (The King’s Speech).

Aaron Sorkin has received a nomination for Best Screenplay, as have Danny Boyle and Simon Beaufoy for their work on 127 Hours.

Danny Elfman (Alice in Wonderland) and A.R. Rahman (127 Hours) are among the composers nominated for Best Score, while Alan Menken and Glenn Slater are nominated in the Best Song category for “I See the Light” from Tangled, which received a nomination for Best Animated Film.

FOX’s Glee led the TV field with five nominations, including one for Best Television Series (Comedy or Musical), and nods for stars Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison Jane Lynch, and Chris Colfer.

Other nominees in the Comedy or Musical categories include Toni Collette (United States of Tara), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), and Laura Linney (The Big C), all of whom are nominated as Best Actress, while Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) is nominated in the Best Actor Category.

In the Drama category, nominees include Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife, Piper Perabo (Covert Affairs), Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Katey Sagal (Sons of Arnarchy), Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), and Michael C. Hall (Dexter).

Supporting Actor and Actress nominees include Hope Davis (The Special Relationship), Julia Stiles (Dexter), Chris Noth (The Good Wife), David Strathairn (Temple Grandin), and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family).

For their work in television mini-series and motion pictures, Claire Danes (Temple Grandin), Judi Dench (Return to Cranford), Romola Garai (Emma), Ian McShane (Pillars of the Earth), and Al Pacino (You Don’t Know Jack) have all received nominations.
