Lois Smith to Join Desperate Housewives

Two-time Tony Award nominee Lois Smith will join the cast of ABC’s Desperate Housewives, in its fifth new episode, according to TVGuide.com. She will play the role of Allison Scavo, the mother of Doug Savant’s character, Tom.

Smith received Tony nominations for The Grapes of Wrath and Buried Child. She received numerous major awards, including the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle, for the Signature production of The Trip to Bountiful, and recent credits include the Hartford Stage production of Dividing the Estate and Long Wharf Theatre’s Lil’s 90th. Her film and television credits include East of Eden, Five Easy Pieces, Truman, and True Blood.

As previously reported, theater veterans Vanessa Williams, Lainie Kazan, and Emily Bergl will also join the cast of the show this season. The series’ stars include Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria Parker, Marcia Cross, Ricardo Chavira, Doug Savant, and Tuc Watkins.
