Audra McDonald, Sheldon Epps, Ruben Santiago-Hudson Honored at NAACP Theatre Awards

Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, Sheldon Epps, artistic director of the Pasadena Playhouse, and artist Ruben Santiago-Hudson will be honored at the 2009 NAACP Theatre Awards, according to a report on the Los Angeles TimesCulture Monster blog. The ceremony will be held on August 31 and will also celebrate the civil rights organization’s 100th anniversary.

McDonald will be presented with the Trailblazer Award, while Epps will receive the Community Service Award. Santiago-Hudson will receive an award for lifetime achievement. Additionally Tichina Arnold will be presented with the Spirit Award.

Loretta Devine and Terry Crews will host the awards ceremony at the Directors Guild of America Theatre in Hollywood.
