David Henry Hwang to Be Honored by Unusual Suspects May 28

Tony Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang will be honored by The Unusual Suspects at its first annual charity event at the Oviatt Penthouse in downtown Los Angeles, May 28 at 6 pm.

The event will be emceed by Meghan Cleary, and also honor philanthropist Paula Litt. The Unusual Suspects was founded in 1993 by actress Laura Leigh Hughes, following the civil unrest of the Los Angeles riots to empower youth by using theater as a means of breaking down barriers between rival gangs and various adversaries within communities.

Hwang won the Tony Award for M. Butterfly, and was Tony-nominated for Golden Child and the book for the Broadway revisal of Flower Drum Song. He was also a Pulitzer Prize finalist for both M. Butterfly and Yellow Face, and received an Obie Award for the latter.
