The Netherlands’ Speeltheater Holland will launch a U.S. tour of Guus Ponsioen’s Perô or the Mysteries of the Night, with an engagement at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, CA, to run April 23-26. Onny Huisink has directed the production.

The tour will also include stops at the Capitol Theatre in Madison WI (May 1-2), the Westfield Insurance Studio Theatre in Cleveland OH (May 4-7), The Theatre at Raritan Valley in Branchburg NJ (May 12-14), and Papaya in Philadelphia PA (May 17-21).

The piece, based on the French children’s book Pierrot ou les secrets de la nuit, looks at what happens in a tiny village when one morning there is no fresh bread at the bakery because the girl whom the baker loves has run off with another man. The company features puppeteer-actors Inez de Bruijn and Tim Velraeds, as well as Annemarie Maas and Ponsioen, who play the musicians’ roles of Sun and Moon.
