The Ebony Repertory Theatre production of Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun opened at Center Theatre Group’s Kirk Douglas Theatre on January 22. Phylicia Rashad has directed the production.
Among the opening night guests were actors Chad L. Coleman, Naturi Naughton, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Tasha Smith, Blair Underwood, and Hattie Winston; musician Harold Wheeler; author Keith Douglas; and Ebony Repertory Theatre founder, Wren T. Brown.
Set in the 1950s, the play portrays an African-American family and its pursuit of a better life while facing the obstacles of conflicting aspirations, betrayal and racism.
The cast includes Kenya Alexander, Keith Arthur Bolden, Brandon David Brown, Kevin Carroll, Jason Dirden, Deidrie Henry, Amad Jackson, Scott Mosenson, Kim Staunton, Bechir Sylvain and Ellis E. Williams.
