Bening, Iger to Be Honored at Backstage at the Geffen Gala

Annette Bening, the multi-award winning actress, and Robert A. Inger, President and CEO of the Walt Disney Company will be honored at the Geffen Playhouse’s annual gala, entitled Backstage at the Geffen, to be held at the theater on March 17. Performers for the event will be announced at a later date.

Bening will receive the Distinction in Theater Award, presented by Anjelica Huston, her co-star in the film, The Gifters for which they received Academy Award nominations. Her stage credits include the Broadway production of Coastal Disturbances, for which she received a Tony nomination, and the Geffen production of Hedda Gabler. Iger will receive the Distinction in Service Award, presented by Julie Taymor, the two-time Tony Award winner for her work on the Lion King.

The gala will include a virtual backstage tour of performances and behind-the-scenes stories, to be conducted by producing director Gil Cates. The evening raises funds for the Geffen’s Stage for Any Age programs, which help to bring live theater to nearly 24,000 families and community members each year. The proceeds from Backstage at the Geffen help to underwrite Saturday Scene, Geffen School Tours Program, and CREATE (Community Representatiives Engaged in Active Theater Education).
