Julie Andrews will narrate a special benefit concert reading of Simeon’s Gift, a new musical adapted from the children’s picture book of the same title by Julie Andrews and her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton, at 7pm on Monday, July 30 at the Whalers Church in Sag Harbor, Long Island.

Proceeds will benefit the Bay Street Theatre’s new Family Theatre Initiative, which will kick off with a full production of Simeon’s Gift from November 28 through December 2. A national tour of the musical is expected to follow in 2008.

The show, which will feature music by Ian Fraser and lyrics by John Bucchino, focuses on a humble musician who sets out to improve his craft, risking the loss of all that is important to him, including the love of his beautiful Sorrell. The journey brings many discoveries, but the scope of choices becomes overwhelming and he turns for home. On his way back, he experiences a series of wondrous events that lead him to the discovery of his own true self and the glorious gifts he has to offer.

Tickets to the benefit are $100 or $25 for children up to age 12. To order or for more information, call 631-725-0818 or visit www.baystreet.org.
