British Actor Simon MacCorkindale Dies at 58

British stage and screen actor Simon MacCorkindale has died, following a battle with cancer, according to published reports. He was 58.

MacCorkindale began his career working in U.K.’s repertory theaters and ultimately made his West End debut in a 1974 production of Pygmalion, starring Alec McCowen and Diana Rigg. His other stage credits include Agatha Christie’s The Unexpected Guest and the recent West End revival of The Sound of Music, in which he played Captain von Trapp opposite Summer Strallen’s Maria.

His many television credits include Dynasty, Hart to Hart, Fantasy Island, Dukes of Hazzard,Manimal, Falcoln Crest, Counterstrike, Poltergeist: The Legacy, and Casualty.

Among his film credits are Death on the Nile, The Quartermass Conclusion, and The Riddle of the Sands.

He is survived by his wife, Susan George.
