Alan Ayckbourn, David Harrower, Francesca Martinez Set for Tricycle Theatre’s 2012 Spring/Summer Season
The Tricycle Theatre has announced plans for their 2012 spring/summer programming.
First, the Tricycle will present The Muju Crew (April 2-5), their interfaith Muslim-Jewish theater company, performing Yasmeen Khan’s My Dutiful Laundrette, directed by Alexander Summers and Flirting with Faith, directed by Waleed Akhtar. Then, The Duke’s Comedy Club will return to the theater to present Duke’s Comedy Nights (April 6 and 7). The April 6 show will be hosted by MC Caroline Mabey and feature Joel Dommett and Phil Nichol. On April 7 Rob Beckett will host, and Isy Suttie and Patrick Monahan will perform.
Alan Ayckbourn’s Neighbourhood Watch (April 10-May 5) will be directed by Ayckbourn himself and feature Eileen Battye, Terence Booth, Phil Cheadle, Matthew Cottle, Richard Derrington, Frances Grey, Amy Loughton, and Alexandra Mathie. Designs will be by Pip Leckenby and lighting design by Mick Hughes. Then, David Harrower will direct his play A Slow Air (May 8-June 2), starring Susan Vidler and Lewis Howden. The design team will include Jessica Brettle (set and costume design), Dave Shea (lighting design), and Barry McCall (sound design).
Comedian Francesca Martinez will perform her What The **** Is Normal?! (June 6-9), with supporting acts including Richard Herring, Robin Ince, Markus Birdman, and Jen Brister. Helen Edmundson’s Mary Shelley (June 12-July 7), a co-production by West Yorkshire Playhouse, Shared Experience, and Nottingham Playhouse, will be directed by Polly Teale and feature Kristin Atherton, Flora Nicholson, Ben Lamb, William Chubb, Shannon Tarbet, and Sadie Shimmin.
Janet Kay, Carroll Thompson, and Victor Romero Evans will present Lovers Rock Monologues (July 9-14). Jazz at Cafe Society, starring Gwyneth Herbert, China Moses, Max Reinhardt, Alexander Stewart, and written, directed, and produced by Alex Webb will be presented by the Tricycle (July 16-21). Mark Thomas will return to the theater with Bravo Figaro! (September 10-22), directed by Hamish Pirie. From April 15-June 17, the Tricycle will present a classical music series featuring programs including The Romantic Heritage, Mother Russia, and Date for the Diary.
In addition, for five weeks during the Olympic Games (July 23-August 25), the Tricycle Theatre will become the Trinidad and Tobago Village, showcasing all aspects of Trinidad and Tobago culture.
