Dominic Cooke, Kate Horton to Depart Royal Court Theatre

The Royal Court Theatre in London is losing both artistic director Dominic Cooke and executive director Kate Horton.

Horton is departing in order to become Deputy Executive Director for the National Theatre beginning in Spring 2012. Cooke is transitioning out of his position, and will step down as artistic director in April of 2013 to focus on freelance work.

Cooke, who has been the theater’s A.D. for seven years, will direct the next production, David Eldridge’s In Basildon in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs.

Among his many other directing credits for The Royal Court are Aunt Dan and Lemon, Seven Jewish Children, Wig Out!, Other People, and The Pain and The Itch. He received a 2007 Olivier Award for his direction of The Crucible.
