Dea Loher’s Innocence and Thomas Bernhard’s Heldenplatz will be the first two offerings at London’s Arcola Theatre in 2010. Helena Kaut-Howson and Annie Castledine will direct, respectively.

Innocence (January 6-30), translated by David Tushingham, links together story lines from the fringes of society. The company will feature Ann Mitchell, Jane Bertish, Miranda Cook, Michael Fitzgerald, Alexander Gilmour, Chris Hannon, Caroline Kilpatrick, Meredith MacNeill, Nathaniel Martello-White, Ellen Sheean, and Danny Lee Wynter.

Heldenplatz (February 10 – March 6), translated by Andrea Tierney and Meredith Oakes, centers on an intellectual Viennese Jewish family. The company will feature Barbara Marten and Caroline Horton.

In addition, the Arcola bar will be hosting two cabaret-style events. Ich Bin Ein Berliner (January 10 & 17) will be an evening full of German songs, scenes, and poems and Kurt Tucholsky Evening (January 15-16), which will offer one of Germany’s noted cabaret songwriters his U.K. premiere.
