Matthew Bourne’s Lord of the Flies to Debut in Glasgow in March, Scott Ambler to Choreograph

Matthew Bourne is devising and directing a multimedia dance version of William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com. Scott Ambler will co-direct and choreograph the piece, which is set to debut at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal, running March 2-5.

In this new multimedia version of the story, a group of schoolboys find themselves abandoned in a deserted theatre. With no adults around they start to create their own rules and to build their own civilization. As time passes, the rituals become more disturbing as dark superstitions take hold. The cast will include professional dancers from Bourne’s New Adventures company performing alongside local boys and young men.

The creative team will include production designer Lez Brotherston, composer Terry Davies, lighting designer Chris Davey and sound designer Paul Groothuis. Video sequences will be created by Alan Stockdale.
