Matthew Kelly and Gerard Kearns will co-star in Tim Firth’s Sign of the Times, which will begin previews on March 7 at the West End’s Duchess Theatre, in anticipation of a March 11 opening, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com. Peter Wilson will direct the production.

The twohander centers on the unlikely friendship between a teenager and a man who earns a living installing industrial signs but dreams of a career as a writer.

Kelly won an Olivier Award for his performance in Of Mice and Men in 2003. Among his many other stage credits are Waiting for Godot, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Troilus and Cressida, Comedians, Spamalot, and the musical version of Lend Me a Tenor.

Kearns is perhaps best known for his portrayals of Ian Gallagher on the U.K. television series Shameless and Ryan in Ken Loach’s film Looking for Eric. On stage, he has appeared in A Thousand Yards, Hanky Park, and Borstal Boy.
