Frank Wildhorn’s Wonderland to Play Alley Theatre; Season Announced

The world premiere production of Wonderland: Alice’s New Musical Adventure, featuring music by Frank Wildhorn, lyrics by Jack Murphy, and a book by Phoebe Hwang, will play the Alley Theatre, January 9-February 14, 2010, to be directed by the Alley’s artistic director Gregory Boyd.

The musical is being produced in association with Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, where it will debut at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, November 24-January 3, under Boyd’s direction.

The show, which is set in present-day Manhattan and Wonderland, tells the story of author Alice Cornwinkle who is struggling with her career and her daughter. Wildhorn, Murphy, and Hwang previously collaborated on Rudolf: The Last Kiss; Wildhorn is best known for Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and The Civil War.

The Alley’s season will also include Thornton Wilder’s Our Town (October 2-November 1), to be directed by Boyd; the world premiere of Rajiv Joseph’s Gruesome Playground Injuries (October 16-November 15), to be directed by Rebecca Bayla Taichman; the Charles Dickens holiday favorite A Christmas Carol (November 20-December 27), to be directed by James Black; Todd Waite starring in David Sedaris’ The Santaland Diaries (November 27-December 27); the world premiere of Kenneth Lin’s Intelligence-Slave (January 22-February 21); Mary Chase’s classic comedy Harvey (March 5-28), to be directed by Boyd; Patrick Barlow’s adaptation of Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps (April 16-May 9); Jeffrey Hatcher’s Mrs. Manerly (May 21-June 20); and Marc Camoletti’s comedy Boeing-Boeing (June 4-27).
