Petrushka tells the tragic love story of three puppets performing at a Russian carnival. Petrushka, the clown, falls in love with the winsome Ballerina at first sight, while the conniving and rich Moor loves the Ballerina as well. The piece opens with an abstract fantasia of puppetry, set to Stravinsky's Sonata for Two Pianos.

The offering is part of a larger celebration of Twist's work happening in the DC-area, which will also include Woolly Mammoth's previously reported presentation of Arias With a Twist (April 4-29), as well as a presentation of Twist's Symphonie Fantastique at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, to run March 29-31, 2012.

Twist's other works include the opera La Bella Dormemte Nel Bosco, The Araneidae Show, Tell Tale, and Dogugaeshi.
