The New Century includes characters such as a Long Island mother of at least three gay children, an accomplished Midwestern craftswoman, and Mr. Charles, a flamboyant resident of Palm Beach, Florida. Rudnick's previous plays include Jeffrey, Regrets Only, and I Hate Hamlet.
Martin, who is the artistic director of Boston's Huntington Theater, directed the Lincoln Center productions of Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, Chaucer in Rome, and The Time of the Cuckoo.
Lincoln Center's 2007-2008 season starts off with Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's new musical The Glorious Ones, beginning performances on October 11 at the Newhouse. The Vivian Beaumont Theatre will host Mark Lamos' production of William Shakespeare's Cymbeline, starring John Cullum, Michael Cerveris, Martha Plimpton, and Phylicia Rashad, beginning on November 1 and Bartlett Sher's revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein's classical musical South Pacific, beginning on February 28. LCT is also a producer of the Broadway production of Tom Stoppard's Rock 'n' Roll, which begins performances at the Bernard P. Jacobs Theatre on October 19.
