Yale Repertory Theatre will open its 2010-2011 season with the world premiere musical We Have Always Lived in the Castle, featuring book and lyrics by Adam Bock and music and lyrics by Todd Almond. Anne Kauffman will direct the piece, which will run September 17-October 9, with an opening on September 23.

Based on the 1962 novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson, the piece centers on Constance Blackwood, acquitted of a horrible crime six years ago, and her devoted younger sister Merricat, who invents magical charms. But talismans may not be powerful enough to keep the sisters together when their handsome cousin Charles comes to visit.

The Yale Rep season will also include Edward Albee’s A Delicate Balance, directed by James Bundy (October 22-November 13); the world premiere of Kirsten Greenidge’s Bossa Nova (November 26-December 18), August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson, directed by Liesl Tommy (January 28-February 19); Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, directed by Shana Cooper (March 11-April 2); and the U.S. premiere of Ingmar Bergman’s Autumn Sonata, directed by Robert Woodruff (April 15-May 7).
