Jeffrey Carlson to Star in Chicago Shakespeare's Edward II

Jeffrey Carlson will play the title role in Chicago Shakespeare Theater's production of Christopher Marlowe's The Troublesome Reign and Lamentable Death of Edward II, King of England, with the Tragical Fall of Proud Mortimer, to be directed by Sean Graney, October 1-November 9.

Actors perform among standing members of the audience who are free to move about the space in this 75-minute "promenade" exploration of political power and deception.

The cast will also include Karen Aldridge (Queen Isabella), Kareem Bandealy (Earl of Arundel), La Shawn Banks (Gaveston), Lea Coco (Kent), Scott Cummins (Mortimer the Younger), Kurt Ehrmann (Mortimer the Elder), Zach Gray (Prince Edward), Erik Hellman (Spencer), John Lister (Bishop of Canterbury), and Chris Sullivan (Lancaster). The ensemble will also feature Alejandro Cordoba, Dane Halvorson, Max Jenkins and Andrew Taylor.

The production team will include scenic designer Todd Rosenthal, costume designer Alison Siple, and lighting designer Philip Rosenberg.

Carlson received a Tony nomination for Taboo, and also appeared on Broadway in Tartuffe and The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? He is also known for his role as transgender rock star Zarf, on ABC's All My Children.
