Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) has announced its complete 2011-2012 season, which will include, as previously announced, a production of Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman’s Follies, to be directed by Gary Griffin (October 4 – November 6).
This production will be the first of five in CST’s subscription series, which will also include Timothy Findley’s Elizabeth Rex (November 29 – January 22), which imagines how Queen Elizabeth I might have spent the evening on the night before the beheading of the Earl of Essex, to be directed by Barbara Gaines; and Jessica Thebus’ The Tempest… (January 18 – March 4), a three performer adaptation of Shakespeare’s play, to be co-directed by Thebus and Frank Maugeri. In addition, Griffin will direct a production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (February 7 – April 8), and Gaines will stage the Bard’s Timon of Athens (April 24 – June 17).
CST will also offer family programming throughout the year, including the previously reported The Adventures of Pinocchio (July 13 – August 28) by Neil Bartram (music/lyrics) and Brian Hill (book), along with Bruch Adolphe’s Witches, Wizards, Spells and Elves: The Magic of Shakespeare (January 21-22); and Short Shakespeare! The Taming of the Shrew (February 25 – March 31), a family-friendly version of Shakespeare’s play, adapted and directed by Rachel Rockwell.
In addition, CST has announced it will present Dash Arts Production’s One Thousand and One Nights (June 25 – July 3), dramatized and directed by Tim Supple and featuring an international company of actors, musicians and designers from across the Arabic-speaking world.
