Chicago Opera Theater (COT) has announced its 2012 season, to be presented at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park.

The season
will include a new production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, to be directed by Diane Paulus and conducted by Jane Glover, in September 2012.

Also on the company’s schedule for the coming year is Dimitri Shostakovich’s Moscow, Cheryomushki, which comically explores life in 20th century Russia. The COT production, directed by Michael Donahue and conducted by Alexander Platt, will use a chamber orchestra version of the score, adapted and arranged by Gerard McBurney.

In addition, COT will produce Handel’s portrait of Medea, Teseo. James Darrah will direct the production, which will feature the period-instrument orchestra, Baroque Band, under the guidance of conductor Christian Curnyn.
