About Face Theatre has announced the line up for its 2008-2009 season, which will open with Taylor Mac’s The Young Ladies of…, September 26-October 26, performed and written by Mac. The solo show has its author grappling with questions of gender while making an attempt to understand his relationship to his deceased father.

Bonnie Metzgar and Megan Carney will direct Stupid Kids, February 4-March 15, a contemporary spin on John C. Russell’s tale of young desire set against the backdrop of the AIDS crisis in Reagan-era America. The production will feature adult actors as well as members of the About Face Youth Theatre Program.

The season will close with What Once We Felt, April 8-May 17, the world premiere of Ann-Marie Healy’s play about a futuristic society in which men have become extinct and natural selection has been sidelined by DNA “downloading”. Ken Rus Schmoll will direct.

Throughout the season, About Face Theatre will also showcase new artists and ensembles during the Chicago XYZ Series, designed to foster the creation of new work by presenting material in various stages of development. The first reading in the program will be by Leigh Fondakowski, and other artists include Dan Rothenberg and Dito von Reigersberg of Pig Iron Theatre Company, and lesbian playwrights Pat Kane and Sally Oswald.
