David Alan Miller to Replace James Conlon at Ravinia Concert Featuring Kelli O’Hara, Brian Stokes Mitchell

David Alan Miller will replace the previously announced James Conlon as conductor of Ravinia’s gala benefit concert to be held on July 23. Conlon has had to withdraw from the event due to illness.

The concert, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s annual summer residency at Ravinia as well as composer George Gershwin, will feature vocalists Brian Stokes Mitchell, Kelli O’Hara, Sylvia McNair, and pianist Kevin Cole.

The program will include Cuban Overture, selections from Porgy and Bess, An American in Paris, and Rhapsody in Blue, as well as “Gershwin around the Piano,” song selections to be announced from the stage, is based upon the all-Gershwin program that the composer himself performed at his only appearance at Ravinia Festival in 1936.
