Rachel Tucker (The Last Ship) will return to Broadway this fall when she takes on the role of Elphaba in Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre. Tucker, who begins performances on Tuesday, September 15, played the role for nearly three years (2010-2012) and more than 1000 performances in the West End production of Wicked.
Also joining the cast on September 15 is Jonah Platt, who makes his Broadway debut as Fiyero. Tucker and Platt replace Caroline Bowman and Matt Shingledecker, who depart the company on September 13. They join a cast that currently includes Kara Lindsay as Glinda, Michele Lee as Madame Morrible, Fred Applegate as The Wizard, Robin De Jesús as Boq, Arielle Jacobs as Nessarose, and Timothy Britten Parker as Dr. Dillamond.
Based on the novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire, Wicked is set in the land of Oz and tells the story of young girls Glinda and Elphaba, who grow up to become Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West, respectively. It features hit songs like "Popular," "For Good," and "Defying Gravity."
Wicked features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and a book by Winnie Holzman. The production is directed by Joe Mantello with musical staging by Wayne Cilento.
