Indecent Lives On in New Footage From Paula Vogel's Tony-Nominated Drama
New production footage from Paula Vogel's Tony-nominated drama, Indecent, has been released. The production is scheduled to run at the Cort Theatre through August 6 under the direction of 2017 Tony winner Rebecca Taichman. Watch the footage below:
The play with music is inspired by the controversial Broadway debut of Sholem Asch's play God of Vengeance. Some saw Asch's play as a seminal work of Jewish culture, while others saw it as an act of traitorous libel. The drama was announced to close on June 25, but the date was postponed due to increasing ticket sales.
Indecent transferred to Broadway from the Vineyard Theatre production, which ran off-Broadway in 2016 in association with La Jolla Playhouse and Yale Repertory Theatre. The production, which received a 2017 Tony nomination for Best Play, marks the Broadway debuts of Vogel and Taichman. Taichman won Tony, Outer Critics Circle, and Obie Awards for her direction, while Christopher Akerlind won a Tony for his lighting design, and David Dorfman won a Lortel Award for his choreography. Vogel was honored by the New York Drama Critics Circle and received a Lifetime Achievement Obie.
As with the off-Broadway production, the company includes Katrina Lenk (Once), Mimi Lieber (Act One), Max Gordon Moore (Relatively Speaking), Tom Nelis (The Visit), Steven Rattazzi (The Fourth Sister), Richard Topol (Fish in the Dark), and Adina Verson (Him). Co-composers Aaron Halva and Lisa Gutkin serve as the onstage band along with Matt Darriau.
The production's creative team includes Dorfman (choreographer), Riccardo Hernandez (scenic designer), Emily Rebholz (costume designer), Akerlind (lighting designer), Matt Hubbs (sound designer), and Tal Yarden (projection designer).
