Unknown Soldier begins performances tonight at Williamstown Theatre Festival's Nikos Stage. The show focuses on Ellen Rabinowitz, who is cleaning out her deceased grandmother’s home. In the process, she finds an enigmatic photograph and decides to uncover the truth about the soldier pictured. As she searches for answers, she is pulled into a tangle of historical facts and mysteries that culminate in love stories and unexpected truths, which force her to consider how, or even whether, the past shows us who we are.

The book was written by Daniel Goldstein, who collaborated on lyrics with Michael Friedman. Friedman also wrote the music and worked on the orchestrations. Trip Cullman directs, with a cast comprising David Greenspan as Doctor, Derek Klena as Francis Grand, Erick Lochtefeld as Andrew Hoffman, Jessica Phillips as Ellen Rabinowitz, Christina Sajous as Nurse, Lauren Worsham as Lucy Lemay, Estelle Parsons as Lucy Anderson, and Clara Young as young Ellen and Lucy Rabinowitz. The ensemble includes Daniel Iwrey, Chelsea Lee Williams, Ned Riseley, and Amanda Shechtman.

The creative team includes Marco Paguia (music director and orchestrations), Patrick McCollum (choreographer), Mark Wendland (set design), Clint Ramos (costume design), Ben Stanton (lighting design), Leon Rothenberg (sound design), Lucy Mackinnon (projection design), Charles LaPointe (wig design), and Becky Fleming (stage manager).

Performances will run through August 9.
