Marcia Gay Harden, Alley Theater, et al. Win Texas Medal of Honor Arts Awards

The 2011 honorees for the Texas Medal of Arts Awards have been announced by The Texas Cultural Trust, according to a report in the Austin American-Statesman. A dozen creative leaders and luminaries with Texas ties will be honored on March 1 in a ceremony to be held at the Long Center in Austin.

Marcia Gay Harden, a University of Texas alum, has been honored with one of the awards. Harden was most recently seen on Broadway in God of Carnage and, as recently reported, will be reprising her Tony Award-winning performance in the play’s Los Angeles production in the spring. She previously appeared on Broadway in Angels in America. She won the Academy Award for her portrayal of the artist Lee Krasner in Pollock, and received an Academy Award nomination for Mystic River.

In addition, the Alley Theatre in Houston has been honored with a Texas Medal of Arts Award. Other honorees include mezzo-Soprano Barbara Smith Conrad, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, CBS News anchor Bob Schieffer, and actor Bill Paxton.
