Theater Schmeater fills Volunteer Park with intrigue as the company opens its 12th Annual Free Classic in the Park with Ben Jonson’s Volpone.
Volpone has it made: He’s rich, and on the very upper crust of society. However, nothing seems to satisfy him, and he feigns illness – just for something to do. Heirless, and appearing to be on the edge of death, Volpone attracts all manner of greedy Venetians desperate to inherit his fortune. With the help of his clever manservent, Mosca, Volpone baits and taunts these would-be heirs into turning over their most prized posessions. But, as with all great comedies, there’s a twist, and Volpone learns that justice cuts both ways.
There will be a sneak preview on Thursday July 1 at 7pm and a special Sunday performance on July 25 at 4pm.
