About This Show

Showtunes! Theatre, the Puget Sound company devoted exclusively to mounting concert stagings of lost and forgotten musicals, kicks off its 3-show 2006-2007 season with the 1966 Broadway musical It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman! The show features music by Charles Strouse (best known for his scores for Bye, Bye, Birdie, Applause, and Golden Boy), lyrics by Lee Adams, and a book by David Newman and Robert Benton (co-screenwriters of the 1978 Christopher Reeve film version of Superman). With its semi-campy approach (reminiscent of the popular 60s Batman TV series), the musical pits the Man of Steel and his adoring love interest, Lois Lane, against a mad scientist and an arrogant news columnist.

Composer Charles Strouse is the guest of honor for the opening night performance. He is scheduled to participate in a talkback following that night’s production.

It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Superman! is directed by Showtunes! co-producing artistic director David-Edward Hughes, with musical direction by Mark Rabe.
