About the Show

Tintypes premiered at Arena Stage in 1980, was produced Off-Broadway later that year, and in 1981 received a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical. A musical revue spanning the years 1890-1917, Tintypes is a melting pot of the popular songs of the day when America’s “Age of Innocence” drew to a close and Ragtime ruled. Larger than life personalities of Teddy Roosevelt, Emma Goldman and Anna Held make their appearance in this snapshot of America at the turn of the century – a country steeped in patriotism, optimism, suffering and pride – forever changed by the wave of immigration.

There is a free opening night reception with the cast and production team following the October 27 performance, and a post-show discussion following the Friday, November 3 performance.
