About This Show

Based on the classic novel, The Member of the Wedding was born out of the poignant loneliness of adolescence, and the strange bond between black and white in the American South of the 1940s. Carson McCullers’ coming of age story explores the life of an introspective white southern girl, twelve-year-old Frankie Addams, who suffers from overwhelming loneliness, uncertainty and despair. Her strongest ally is the family’s African American maid, Berenice Sadie Brown, who must deal with her own life – and Frankie’s – in a racially charged environment. The Broadway version starred Ethel Waters and Julie Harris, who both later appeared in the film version that immortalized the drama and the spiritual “His Eye is on the Sparrow.”

This new production is directed by Marshall W. Mason.
