Lillian Hellman’s The Autumn Garden is set in a Gulf Coast resort shortly after the end of the Second World War. Nick Denery, a dissipated artist with some similarities to Hammett, returns from Europe in the midst of a joyless marriage to disrupt the life of his former love, Constance Tuckerman. The chaos he unleashes among Constance and her other guests cause them to make painful, but realistic assessments of their lives, a process that fascinating to watch.
Additional 2:30pm matinees on March 19, 26, April 2, 8 and 15.
