About This Show

At a young couple’s wedding reception, the bride Rita discovers an Old Man who has wandered into their party. At the beginning of her romantic life, she wonders what it must be like for the old man to be at the end of his. In a magical moment, she kisses him and their spirits are exchanged. At first, the groom Peter sees the same Rita on the outside, but then notices the difference in his young bride when suddenly she develops strange new habits and interests. He confides in his best friend Taylor to no avail. Everyone — including Rita’s parents — are skeptical. Nevertheless, Peter becomes convinced that this is not the Rita he fell in love with and through enchanting and daffy complications seeks to reclaim his true love. Winner of the 1989 Obie Award for Best Play and a 1990 Tony nominee for Best Play, Prelude to a Kiss is a charming and highly original fantasy comedy about the wonder and confusion of love. Silver Spring Stage presents this play by Craig Lucas, directed by Barry Hoffman.
