This revue of the art of Belgian songwriter Jacques Brel features 27 English versions of his beloved songs. Brel’s music is very much of the French tradition of singing that will be more familiar to English-speaking audiences through the songs of Edith Piaf. His songs are characterized by exuberance for life…yet they are often tempered by an edge of bitterness and longing for a youthful innocence.
