About This Show

Derek Jarman’s Blue may be his weirdest and most wonderful film; literally 80 minutes of nothing but a blue screen, with the bells and whispers of Brian Eno’s haunting score caressing words spoken by Nigel Terry and Tilda Swinton. The script consists of Jarman’s diaries and asides as blindness overtook the artist before he died of an AIDS-related illness in 1993.

Miami-born performance artist and dancer Octavio Campos pays tribute to Jarman as he utilizes Blue as the setting for a dark journey into the sexually puzzling culture of bug chasers and gift givers. An increasing phenomenon in contemporary queer culture, young men have idealized the community of HIV-Positive men to the point of actively pursuing the virus. In Blue: Live, Campos explores this concept – utilizing his experiences with such luminaries as the Martha Graham Company, Pina Bausch, Robert Wilson, Philip Glass, Jorge Guerra and Bebe Miller – creating a unique blend of movement, theater, and cinema with a touch of the absurd.
