MEASURE FOR MEASURE, Shakespeare’s darkest comedy, directed by Jeff Church

Burbage Theatre Co concludes its 14th Season with the 21st Century Rhode Island premiere of William Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure,” directed by Artistic Director Jeff Church. When Duke Vincentio leaves Vienna in the hands of the rigid Angelo, a young man is sentenced to death, prompting his sister Isabella to plead for mercy—setting in motion a chain of deception that exposes corruption, tests virtue, and forces a reckoning between justice and compassion. Often called Shakespeare’s darkest comedy, the play examines morality, power, and the uneasy distance between public virtue and private desire. Starring Alison Russo, Mauro Hantman and Steven Liebhauser, “Measure for Measure” runs May 14 through June 7 at the Wendy Overly Studio Theatre, 59 Blackstone Avenue, Pawtucket.
