Second Helping: The Original Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute is the longest-running Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band in the world, dedicated to delivering the music of Skynyrd as fans remember it. Formed in 1988 in Jacksonville, Florida, the band was born out of guitarist Chris McCallister’s friendship with Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Ed King. During a rehearsal at Skynyrd’s studio, McCallister inquired about the band’s touring plans, which inspired the creation of Second Helping to keep the music alive.
The band has received endorsements from members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, with several Skynyrd members, including Ed King and Randall Hall, collaborating with Second Helping on specific parts. Notably, Chris McCallister (guitar) and Rick King (bass) played in the post-Skynyrd reunion tour band, The Randall Hall Band, in 1987.
Second Helping continues to perform, bringing the classic Southern rock sound to audiences. If you’re interested in experiencing the authentic sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Second Helping offers a performance that captures the spirit and energy of the original band.
