About This Show

It is a balmy midsummer’s eve, a night during which anything can happen. The aristocratic Miss Julie impulsively decides to have an affair with her father’s power hungry valet, Jean. What follows is a battle of wills between two people from opposite sides of the track: one, a woman bound by 19th century convention; the other, a servant, enslaved by his position and engaged to someone else. Can either of them rise above their present situations, or will everything result in tragedy? This is August Strindberg’s Miss Julie, a masterful tale of gender roles, status, and betrayal. Eternal Spiral Project, Philadelphia’s only women’s theatre company, presents this great classic translated by Frank McGuinness.
