PENN presents Fourscore and Seven Years Ago, a powerful and touching play in celebration of Black History Month. The story is about Lemuel, a young runaway slave who escapes by the Underground Railroad from Georgia to Pennsylvania, where he meets Mrs. McIlheny, a Quaker widow and storekeeper, who shelters him and gives him work in her shop. Together, they face off against Union and Confederate authorities who are badly in need of provisions from her store. Soon, Lemuel realizes his struggle for freedom has just begun.
